John Haddoo MOH

b. 13/08/1851 Boston, Massachusetts. d. 30/09/1877 Bear Paw Mountain, Montana.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 21/10/1876 – 08/01/1877 Cedar Creek, Montana.

He was born John Haddo Jnr and served as a Corporal in the United States Army in Company B, 5th Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Cedar Creek etc, Montana during the winter of 1876-1877. He received his Medal on July 18, 1877 at a parade at the Cantonment at the Yellowstone and Tongue Rivers by General William T. Sherman. Sadly he held the Medal of Honor for less than three months as he was killed in action on September 30, 1877 at Bear Paw Mountain, Montana. He was buried in a mass grave at Custer Battlefield National Cemetery, Crow Agency, Montana, but also has an “In Memory of” Marker at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Oklahoma.
