He was awarded the CMOH for action on April 6, 1865, at Deatonsville (Sailor’s Creek), Virginia. His citation reads “Capture of battle flag of 50th Georgia Infantry (C.S.A.). He was a prisoner of war. He received his Medal on May 10, 1865.
