American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on June 13, 1894 for his actions as a captain with Company F, 20th Indiana Infantry, US Army, on May 23, 1864, at the Battle of North Anna, Virginia. His Medal of Honor citation reads: “Volunteered for dangerous service and single-handedly captured 13 armed Confederate soldiers and marched them to the rear.”
