Joseph Johnson MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He earned the Medal of Honor during the Civil War while serving as a First Lieutenant, Company A, 58th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, at Fort Harrison, Virginia, on September 29, 1864. His citation reads: Though twice severely wounded while advancing in the assault, he disregarded his injuries and was among the first to enter the fort, where he was wounded for the third time. He was awarded his Medal on April 1, 1898. During the war, he rose to Captain and commander of his regiment’s Company B, and was brevetted Major, US Volunteers.
