Joseph F Scott MOH

Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on July 7, 1899 for his actions as a US Marine Corps private assigned to the US Navy gunboat USS Nashville on May 11, 1898, off the coast of Cienfuegos, Cuba. He joined the US Marine Corps in August 1888 and was discharged at the rank of corporal in May 1901. He received his Medal on August 16, 1899 from Commander Raymond P. Rodgers of the USS Nashville at the Charlestown Naval Yard in Massachusetts.

 

MOH CITATION:

On board the U.S.S. Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Scott displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
