Joseph G Harner MOH

Vera Cruz Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Louisville, Ohio, he served as a Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class in the United States Navy. On April 21, 1914, while on board the USS. Florida, Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Harner was a member of the landing party taking part in control of the city during the Siege of at Vera Cruz, Mexico. For extraordinary gallantry in the line of his profession, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on June 15, 1914. He was presented with his Medal on the deck of USS Florida by the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on January 6, 1915. He also served with honor in World War I and World War II.
