Joseph Keene MOH

b. 03/04/1839 England. d. 01/12/1921 Willowvale, New York.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 13/12/1862 Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Keene was born in England. He joined the 26th New York Infantry from Utica, New York in May 1861, and mustered out with this regiment after two years. He re-enlisted with the 3rd New York Heavy Artillery in June 1863, and mustered out with this regiment in July 1865. His Medal was presented to him on December 2, 1892.

 

MOH CITATION:

Voluntarily seized the colors after several color bearers had been shot down and led the regiment in the charge.

 

BURIAL LOCATION: GRAND VIEW CEMETERY, WHITESBORO, NEW YORK.

LOCATION OF MEDAL: BELIEVED TO BE FAMILY.
