Michael McKeever MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Born in Ireland, he served during the Civil Warin Company K, 5th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, enlisting as a Private at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at age 21 on September 9, 1861. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Burnt Ordinary, Virginia (now Toano, Virginia) on January 19, 1863.  He eventually rose to the rank of First Sergeant. His Medal was awarded to him on August 2, 1897.

 

MOH CITATION:

Was one of a small scouting party that charged and routed a mounted force of the enemy six times their number. He led the charge in a most gallant and distinguished manner, going far beyond the call of duty.
