He showed gallantry in action during hostile conflicts at Cedar Creek, Montana, from October 21, 1876 to January 8, 1877. His citation was issued on April 27, 1877. He received the Medal from General William T. Sherman at the Cantonment on the Yellowstone and Tongue Rivers, Montana on July 18, 1877.
