Moses A Luce MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the Union Army as a Sergeant in Company E, Fourth Michigan Infantry. At the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 10, 1864, he voluntarily returned in the face of the advancing Confederates to assist a wounded comrade and carried him to a place of safety. For extreme courage under enemy fire, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. After the war, he became a lawyer at San Diego, California and was prominent in that city’s early development. He was also a Vice-President at the Santa Fe Railroad, Postmaster and County Judge. He did not receive his Medal until February 7, 1895.

Voluntarily returned in the face of the advancing enemy to the assistance of a wounded and helpless comrade, and carried him, at imminent peril, to a place of safety.
