Norman F Bates MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company E, 4th Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Columbus, Georgia on April 16, 1865. His citation simply reads “Capture of flag and bearer.” His Medal was issued on June 17, 1865. His grave was unmarked for over 88 years but on May 22, 2004, this was rectified by his relatives.
