Oliver Hughes MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company C, 12th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Weldon Railroad, Virginia on June 24, 1864. His citation reads “Capture of flag of 11th South Carolina (C.S.A.)”. His Medal was awarded to him on August 1, 1865. He, along with Captain John H. Brown, were the only two members of the 12th Kentucky to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the war.
