Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the Union Army at Chicago, IL and served as a Sergeant. He was awarded the CMOH as a Corporal in Company D, 23rd Illinois Infantry for action on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads “Conspicuous gallantry as color bearer in th assault on Fort Gregg.” His Medal was issued on May 12, 1865.
