Peter Stewart MOH

Boxer Rebellion Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. During a relief expedition of the Allied forces in China on the dates of June 13, 20 and 21, 1900, two detachments of Navy Bluejackets and Marines were dispatched as guards for the American Legations. In battles against Boxer militants, hidden snipers and a Chinese cavalry charge, Gunnery Sergeant Stewart with others in his group, fought their way through the siege on Peking. For extreme gallantry in the face of the enemy he was awarded the Medal of Honor in July 1901.

 

MOH CITATION:

In action with the relief expedition of the Allied forces in China during the battles of 13, 20, 21, and 22 June 1900. Throughout this period and in the presence of the enemy, Stewart distinguished himself by meritorious conduct.
