b. 17/03/1874 Gates County, North Carolina. d. 30/12/1946 Savannah, Georgia.

DATE OF MOH ACTION: 11/05/1898 Cienfuegos, Cuba.

Spanish-American War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Spanish-American War as a private on board the USS Nashville. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery during the cutting of the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, on May 11, 1898. His citation reads “Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Parker set an example of extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.” His Medal of Honor was awarded to him on July 7, 1899. He gravesite has a private marker and a military marker. He was the son of Wiley E. and Sally M. Parker.

 

MOH CITATION:

On board the U.S.S. Nashville during the operation of cutting the cable leading from Cienfuegos, Cuba, 11 May 1898. Facing the heavy fire of the enemy, Parker displayed extraordinary bravery and coolness throughout this action.
