Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Army at Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as a Sergeant in Company C, 7th US Cavalry. He was awarded the CMOH for action at the Little Big Horn River, Montana on June 25, 1876. His citation reads “Recaptured, singlehandedly, and without orders, within the enemy’s lines and under a galling fire lasting some 20 minutes, a stampeded pack mule loaded with ammunition”. He received his Medal on October 5, 1878.
