Sampson Harris MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Private in Company K, 30th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 22, 1863. His citation reads simply “Gallantry in the charge of the volunteer storming party”. His Medal was issued on July 10, 1894. He was one of nine 30th Ohio soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the Civil War (the others being Corporal William Archinal, Private Uriah Brown, Private William Campbell, Private William H. Longshore, Private James M. McClelland, Private Wilson McGonagle, Corporal Platt Pearsall, and Private Andrew Schmauch.
