DATE OF MOH ACTION: 17/09/1862 Antietam, Maryland.
Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army at Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and was mustered in as a Private in Company G, 9th Pennsylvania Reserves (38th Pennsylvania Volunteers) on July 27, 1861. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the September 17, 1862 Battle of Antietam, Maryland. His citation reads “Individual bravery and daring in capturing from the enemy 2 colors of the 1st Texas Rangers (C.S.A.), receiving in the act a severe wound.” He was awarded his Medal on May 30, 1863. Continuing to serve in the 9th Pennsylvania Reserves through to the May 1863 Chancellorsville Campaign, on June 4, 1863 he was transferred to the 10th Veterans Reserve Corps. In December 1863 he was mustered into Company C, 17th United States Regular Infantry, and serve with that unit until August 1864, when he deserted.
