DATE OF MOH ACTION: 02/04/1865 Petersburg, Virginia.

American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. An Irish immigrant, he was issued the award on May 12, 1865 for his actions as a sergeant with Company B, 23rd Illinois Infantry, US Army, on April 2, 1865, at Petersburg, Virginia, in the final days of the American Civil War. He received his Medal on May 12, 1865.

 

MOH CITATION:

One of the three soldiers most conspicuous for gallantry in the final assault.
