Boxer Rebellion Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Boxer Rebellion in the United States Navy as a Chief Carpenter’s Mate. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on June 13, and on June 20-22, 1900. His citation reads “Fighting with the relief expedition of the Allied forces on 13, 20, 21 and 22 June 1900, Hamberger distinguished himself by meritorious conduct”. His Medal was issued on July 19, 1901. He remained in the US Navy, retiring with the Rank of Lieutenant Commander.
