William Marland MOH

Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Brevet Major in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a First Lieutenant in the 2d Independent Battery, Massachusetts Light Artillery for action on November 3, 1863 at Grand Coteau, Louisiana. He did not receive his Medal until February 16, 1897.

 

MOH CITATION:

After having been surrounded by the enemy’s cavalry, his support having surrendered, he ordered a charge and saved the section of the battery that was under his command.
