William Zuiderveld MOH
Vera Cruz Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the United States Navy and had earned the rating of Hospital Apprentice Third Class. On August 19, 1914, he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico on April 21, 1914. His citation reads, for “extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession on board the U.S.S. Florida.” He retired in September 1938 but was recalled to active duty during World War II. At the end of the war, he was placed on the retired list with the rank of Lieutenant.
He received his Medal of January 6, 1915 from the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels, on the deck of the USS Florida at the Brooklym Navy Yard, Brooklyn, New York.

On board the U.S.S. Florida, Zuiderveld showed extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the seizure of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 21 April 1914.
